Where there is love there is life

I saw the very touching story on TV today of Mr Lam Tak-sun, who lost his life in a tragic traffic accident days ago. At a time of deep grief and loss, Mr Lam's family nobly agreed to donate his heart to save a fast 13-year-old swimmer, Lam Yin-chun. Yin-chun has suffered from a serious heart disease in recent days, and the donation has brought new hope to her family.

This selfless act by Mr Lam's family has touched many hearts and is truly brave and admirable. Months ago I wrote about the story of another donor, Ms Carmen Ho. I do wish that organ donation would become a part of our social fabric so that more patients can have the hope to gain a new life.

I understand Yin-chun has just undergone heart transplant surgery. She is now in a stable condition under proper medical care and observation. I sincerely wish her a speedy recovery and her family all the best.
