Congratulations to Ms Tu Youyou on winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

I sincerely congratulate Ms Tu Youyou on becoming one of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015.

Following clues on Chinese medicine in ancient literature and building on the foundation of traditional herbal medicine, Ms Tu and her team applied modern science and technology to create a new drug for malaria - Artemisinin. The new drug has saved millions of lives, mostly children in the world's poorest regions. With the award of the Nobel Prize to Ms Tu, Chinese medicine will attract more attention from the scientific community.

Ms Tu's winning demonstrates that combining the strengths of China and other countries can be a key to success. This is what Hong Kong has been doing as the country's "super-connector", whether in the country's reform and opening up or in the recent "Belt and Road" initiative.

My congratulations again to Ms Tu.
