Increasing subsidised housing supply through a multi-pronged approach

In this year's Policy Address, I pointed out that there was a marked increase in demand from low and middle-income families for Home Ownership Scheme flats or other subsidised flats. I said that the Government had to actively explore ways to increase the supply of subsidised sale flats through a multi-pronged approach by engaging organisations including the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA), Hong Kong Housing Society (HS) and Urban Renewal Authority (URA) so as to provide the public with more opportunities to buy affordable homes. We are now working progressively towards this goal.

I am glad to learn that the URA's subsidised housing project at Kai Tak is now in full swing, and will start receiving applications in late December 2015 or early January 2016.

Separately, the HA and HS will put about 3 700 subsidised sale flats on the market early next year.

The Special Administrative Region Government will rise to the challenges ahead and keep up its efforts to solve the housing problem through a multi-pronged approach.
