The country supports Hong Kong in developing innovation and technology

This morning, the country's Premier Li Keqiang took a group photo with the Hong Kong and Macau delegations before the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference. I introduced to him Mr Nicholas W Yang, who took office as Secretary for Innovation and Technology four months ago. I also thanked Premier Li for supporting Hong Kong's innovation and technological development.

Around the end of last year, I visited Beijing to report on my work. I put forward the suggestion that Hong Kong should leverage the combined advantages of "one country" and "two systems" to promote innovation and technological development. The suggestion was supported by Premier Li. Later on during the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, I met with the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology and the Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China separately in order to start the discussion on working out a detailed collaboration plan.

The Mainland of China has a vast market, and is undergoing rapid development of innovation and technology. Many Hong Kong people have expanded their businesses into the Mainland in recent years after successful product development and market testing in Hong Kong.
