Voices from the districts

I must thank the Chairmen and Vice-chairmen of the 18 District Councils for supporting my proposed reorganisation of the Government Secretariat. Last Friday these 36 district representatives made a joint newspaper statement expressing their approval for a new government structure to implement policy objectives and address livelihood issues.

As local bodies serving the community on the front line, the District Councils enjoy direct interaction with the people and are therefore in a very good position to gauge public sentiment and opinion. It is my hope that the Legislative Council will pass the reorganisation package at an early date, so that I can get on with carrying out my election pledges to promote the economic development of Hong Kong and improve the livelihood of the people as soon as possible.
