Expressing my sympathy for a colleague in the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department

Yesterday, Mr Wu, a hawker control officer of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, was injured while on duty. According to his doctor, he is in critical condition. I know that the medical staff are doing their best to save him. I sincerely hope that Mr Wu will recover soon, and I express my sympathy to him and his family.

A civilised society does not want to see its front-line enforcement officers being treated in a rude or violent manner while maintaining social order in accordance with the law. Such behaviour will not be tolerated by the public. I and other senior government officials are highly concerned about yesterday's incident. Whatever the assailant's motive, that person will be brought to justice. We will endeavor to prevent similar violent incidents from happening and ensure the safety of our front-line staff when they discharge their duties.
