Living among the people

Government officials are also members of the community and live among the people. As today is a public holiday, I went to a wet market to buy fruit in the afternoon. As usual, many people came up and took photos with me. I took the opportunity to ask them what they thought about the constitutional development package. Some of them said that they were not clear about its contents, so I gave them leaflets on the matter.

Those people who took photos with me all said that they looked forward to electing the Chief Executive through "one person, one vote" in 2017. Some said that they hoped there would be fewer political disputes in Hong Kong once the arrangements for universal suffrage are finalised so that everyone could focus their mind and efforts on building a better Hong Kong and improving the lives of the 7 million people here. I said that we had to work together to make universal suffrage happen, and urged them to voice their wishes to Members of the Legislative Council.
