Outstanding students in mathematics and physics

The HKSAR Government attaches great importance to science and technology and even greater importance to youth development.

There is a group of outstanding students in Hong Kong who wrestle tirelessly with all kinds of mathematics and physics problems. This afternoon, I met separately with the Hong Kong delegations to this year's International Mathematical Olympiad and International Physics Olympiad to encourage them to do their best in these two competitions, which will be held next month.

These 10 senior secondary students have already achieved remarkable results in many Mainland and international mathematics and physics competitions. They became our representatives to the international Olympiads this year by winning Hong Kong's preliminary selection contests. Having distinguished themselves at such a young age, surely they will have a promising future.

Apart from wishing them success in the Olympiads, I hope they will grasp this opportunity to broaden their horizons and interact with students from various countries. I am grateful to all teachers in Hong Kong for their dedicated efforts in nurturing our young people.

The HKSAR Government will continue to care about the next generation and support the development of young people with different interests to achieve their aspirations.
