Hong Kong ePrix

Details of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Formula E Championship - Hong Kong ePrix to be held between October 8 and 9 this year were further confirmed today. This mega event will be the first of its kind in Hong Kong, a blend of environment protection, motorsport, entertainment and tourism. The organiser anticipates that the event will attract an attendance of 30 000 people.

The idea to stage the event was first raised two years ago. I have asked various government departments to render full support to the event. On October 9, 2015, the organiser formally announced the staging of the event. On the same day, I officiated at an electric racing car unveiling ceremony at the Central Harbourfront.

The ePrix will add colour and vibrancy to Hong Kong and bring benefits to the tourism industry.

The Government offers tax incentives to promote the use of electric vehicles, so as to further improve the city's air quality. I believe the ePrix will also help enhance public awareness in using electric vehicles.
